Cancel, Close, Delete, and Archive a Project

Written by Asia Ali

These four actions live under More Actions (top right of a project).

Cancel Project

Use this when a project is no longer going ahead — for example, an In Queue or In Progress project the business no longer wants.

  • Click More Actions > Cancel Project?

  • Select a Reason (required) from the dropdown

  • Choose either:

    • Cancel Project — cancels only

    • Cancel and Archive Project — cancels and archives in one step

  • The project banner updates to show Canceled Project, with the reason and cancellation date available by clicking View Details.

You can reactivate a Cancelled project by selecting the Reactivate button, which returns it to an active status.

Note: While a project is Cancelled, its tasks are locked from editing or deletion. See Why can't I delete a task in a cancelled project? if you need to remove one.

Close Project

Only available once a project's Status is Completed — Close won't appear in More Actions before then.

  • Click More Actions > Close Project?

  • Enter a Comment (required)

  • The project's Status changes to Closed

The project becomes uneditable once closed, but it can be reopened: go to More Actions > Cancel Project?, then select Reactivate.

Archive Project

Use this to move inactive projects out of your main list without deleting them.

  • Click More Actions > Archive Project

  • The project becomes uneditable, but retains the Project Stage it was in when archived

  • Archived projects are hidden from the default list but can be found by filtering for Archived

  • Archived projects will no longer be visible in any programs they were linked to. However, the project will still show the association.

Delete Project

Removes the project completely from the account. This can't be undone.
