Once a project is cancelled, its tasks are locked from editing and deletion.
Why this happens
Cancelling a project freezes its tasks to preserve an accurate record of what was planned at the time of cancellation. This means:
Tasks can't be deleted (or edited) while the project is in Cancelled status.
The lock applies regardless of who created or is assigned to the task.
A common example: a project is cancelled, but a task on it was created in error or is no longer needed. Deleting it directly isn't possible while the project stays cancelled.
How to delete the task
Open the project and go to Overview.
Temporarily change the project status from Cancelled back to an open status (e.g., In Progress).
Go to the Tasks tab, open the task, and select Delete Task.
Return to Overview and set the project status back to Cancelled.
Preserving the original Cancellation Date
Re-cancelling the project updates the Cancellation Date to today's date. If you need to keep the original date on record:
When re-cancelling, select Reason: Other.
In the Please Specify field, note the original date, e.g.: "Business Ask – Original cancellation date May 18, 2026."
