Set up learning teams, business teams, and vendors

Add the Learning Teams, Business Teams, and Vendors that make up your organization's structure in Cognota.

Written by Asia Ali

After you've added your users, we recommend setting up your Teams. This is where you add the Learning Teams, Business Teams, and Vendors that make up your organization's structure.

Who can do this: Admins. Power Users can also view, create, and edit Vendors.

Open team settings

  1. Click Settings in the left navigation.

  2. Select Teams.

  3. Select the Learning Teams, Business Teams, or Vendors tab, depending on what you want to set up.

Add a learning team

Learning Teams are your own teams that use Cognota to do your work. These are the different groups within your organization that want visibility into the same projects, and a way for the team manager to view projects associated with their team members.

  1. On the Learning Teams tab, click Add a Team.

  2. Enter the Team Name and Description.

  3. Indicate whether the team reports into another Learning Team.

  4. Optionally, choose a Manager for the team. Team Managers can view and edit work owned by members of their team.

  5. Click Save or Update to save your changes.

Note: Learning Team Users can belong to more than one Learning Team, but Business Users can only be assigned to a single Business Team. Learn more about user types and permissions.

Add a business team

Business Teams are the business units or departments that use your learning teams' services. In different organizations, business teams may be called business units, departments, and so on.

  1. On the Business Teams tab, click Add a Team.

  2. Enter the team name and description.

  3. Click Save or Update to save your changes.

Business Teams appear in your Requests, Projects, and Insights sections, so you can affiliate a team with specific work your team is completing.

What happens if I rename or delete a Business Team?

  • Renaming: updates automatically everywhere the team is referenced (existing projects, future reports).

  • Deleting: the Business Unit field goes blank on any project that used it, and stays blank in reports until someone manually re-assigns a team on those projects.

Add a vendor

Vendors are external companies you might work with on the creation of any design content, strategy, or development.

  1. On the Vendors tab, click Add a Vendor.

  2. Fill in the vendor's information.

  3. Click Save or Update to save your changes.

You can apply a Vendor to the Resource Plan in any of your projects.
