Troubleshooting
I can't delete a task in a cancelled project
Why this happens
When you cancel a project, its tasks are frozen so there's an accurate record of what was planned at the time of cancellation. This means:
Tasks can't be deleted or edited while the project's status is Cancelled.
The lock applies no matter who created the task or who it's assigned to.
Example: A project is cancelled, but one of its tasks was created in error or is no longer needed. You can't delete it directly while the project is still cancelled.
Delete the task
Open the project and go to Overview.
Temporarily change the project status from Cancelled to an open status, such as In Progress.
Go to the Tasks tab, open the task, and select Delete Task.
Return to Overview and set the project status back to Cancelled.
Keep the original cancellation date
Cancelling the project again changes the Cancellation Date to today's date. To keep the original date on record:
When you cancel the project again, set the Reason to Other.
In the Please Specify field, enter the original date. For example: "Business Ask – Original cancellation date May 18, 2026."
