Cognota allows users to create, manage, and adjust task dependencies to ensure smooth project execution. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to use task dependencies effectively.
Identify Task Dependencies
Open the Task Detail page.
Scroll down to the Task Dependencies section.
Choose whether this task is:
Dependent on another task (this task cannot start until the other one is completed).
Blocking another task (this task must be completed before the other can start).
Set Start and Due Dates
Set the Start and Due Dates for each task:
In the Task Detail Page, select the Start Date and Due Date fields that work for the task.
Both the Start Date and Due Date must be set for auto-shifting to work correctly with dependencies.
Auto-Shifting Dates
When you change the start, due, or completion date of a task, Cognota can automatically shift the dates of dependent tasks, keeping the time gap between them intact.
Forward or backward shifts: If a task is delayed, dependent tasks will move forward. If a task is completed earlier, dependent tasks will shift backward.
Weekends: Auto-shifting only applies to business days, skipping weekends.
Review and Confirm Changes
After making a date change, a preview will show the impacted tasks and their new dates. You can choose to confirm or reject the changes before they are applied.
